If youโre stumbling upon this postโฆ Be gentle with me because it’s been over four years since I’ve blogged anything. And, are we still blogging? Is anyone out there?
My mind works 20 hours a day. Most of the time Iโm paid for it. At times, Iโm overstimulated by espresso and I feel deranged with a cold foam of paranoia. Either way, my thoughts are landing here today.
Seeing as I’m wide awake at 2 am, I decided to google memes, quotes, anything about working tirelessly in your fifties to see what I could find. AI generated this response for me… Reasons why people work hard in their 50s and Potential Downsides.
Simple as that. Of course, there were rambles of rants on Reddit from others like myself. A little disenchanted with those results. Felt as if I just checked my bank account and only had $17 in it.
Just because people are fifty and older doesnโt mean we arenโt driven, ambitious, hustling to make our dreams happen right?
Ahhโฆ. Did you think you were going to read ranting and complaining about my career? Sure, I will do that at times, no doubt. We all do that from time to time. Thatโs not what this post is about today.
I wanted to find some humorous memes, Gen Xer sarcasm possibly? An article to inspire or push me harder? Was it too much to hope for something to make me feel some badassery type of way by reading some boss babe shit?
Being 53 years old doesn’t mean I’m knitting in a fucking rocking chair and washing my dentures at night. I listen to rap artists like Luh Tyler, Jack Harlow, Uncle Murda to name a few. And donโt put me in just the rap genre box. I love alternative rock, country, new wave and the list goes on. If it’s music, I’m listening. I even play video games. ๐
You get my point. We Gen Xers began our hustle before we were teenagers. I would charge kids to drive my go cart after school when my Mom was at work. I also sold my sack lunch to kids at school instead of eating.
We should feel no shame in our age and working our asses off for what we want out of life. We want to feel validated, pumped, encouraged and eager to grow, right? Iโm not done yet, are YOU?
Iโm a Dispatcher for an industrial equipment company. Basically, I schedule/coordinate between clients and technicians. The technicians maintain and repair the equipment at the customer locations. In other words, at times it feels like Iโm herding sloths. Donโt get me wrong, my sloths are incredible at their craft. They are one of a kind, extremely hard to find and train. Personally I worry that the blue collar workers are few and far between. Millennials AKA Gen Yers and Gen Zers do not seem to want to get their hands dirty too much. Thatโs not throwing shade at them. Can you blame them? Why get dirty and work five times as hard to make six figures or more if you donโt have to?
Just interested in hearing your thoughts about this topic no matter what age you are. Baby Boomers? Millennials? Gen Xers? All of you. Drop a line and let me know what your occupation is, what area do you live in, what’s the pros and cons of your career? Would love some feedback if anyone is reading this. Thanks for dropping by. I’ll leave you with some Gex X humor…
